Magical day for our torch bearer Gerry
ALLOA'S Torchbearer Gerry Malone has spoken of his delight at carrying the Olympic flame on its journey through the Wee County.
The triathlete carried the torch through Alloa as part of the relay towards Stirling Castle and he said the emotions of the day are really hard to describe - but insisted itis something that will live with him forever.
Gerry told Advertiser Sport, "Words fail me when I try to paint a picture of my days experience. I was emotional, happy, ecstatic, overjoyed and elated all rolled into one.
"I am so proud to have been selected as part of this wonderful experience and every time I think about it, I smile all over again.
"It was fantastic, meeting all the organisers and the other torch bearers and be able to share our stories and our days experience.
"This will always be a great memory for me to keep - it was just magic."
The 48-year-old said that the day was made even more memorable because he got to share it with his family and friends who cheered him on every step of the way.
Gerry Malone said, "My family came out to see me via bus, trains and automobiles and they all were in good voice throughout. Running past them got me even more excited and emotional. I was so proud. At one point my wife Marion was running at my right hand side with a camera and my friend Brian was on the other side filming it. It was such a surreal moment.
"The turnout out from the Alloa residents was unexpected. The crowds were amazing and they make the experience come alive from the start to the finish. Even in the bus before i started, it had the "wow" factor because of everyone who turned out. It was really amazing."
