Alva catch Gord's eye
ALVA Academy triumphed in the 2012 Lloyds TSB Scotland U13 Plate Final at Lesser Hampden last week with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over Belmont Academy of Ayr - and earned the praise of Scotland legend Gordon Strachan in the process.
Alva looked lively from the off and bossed the opening exchanges before taking the lead on 12 minutes through Kieran Murphy's sweeping 20-yard effort.
The Clackmannanshire youngsters doubled their lead just 3 minutes later.
Belmont keeper Jack Meddings did well to parry a low Murphy shot but was helpless to stop Gregor Beaton from tapping in the rebound.
Alva were now in full low and added a third when hesitancy in the Belmont defence allowed Murphy to nod home his second of the match.
There was still time for the blue and whites to extend their lead further before the break. Harry Neil scored a sublime fourth before Murphy completed his hat-trick, blasting home from close range after Belmont failed to deal with an
in-swinging corner.
Murphy continued his scoring streak early in the second half nudging home his fourth goal of the night to put Alva 6-0 ahead.
Miguel McIntosh replied for Belmont but Stefan Mitusch then nonchalantly walked the ball into the net having rounded that hapless Meddings for a final scoreline of 7-1.
Afterwards, Lloyds TSB Scotland Schools' Football Ambassador Strachan said, "I have some great memories of playing schools' football with both Silverknowes Primary and Craigroyston Secondary in Edinburgh. You get a great sense of camaraderie with schools' football and there's no better feeling than playing together with your mates. Congratulations to everyone that
took part."
