Hillfoots club aims to add to success
HILLFOOTS Gymnastics Club are looking to hear from new competitors wishing to try their hand at an exciting and healthy sport.
The club is a vibrant and fun group that caters for young gymnasts across a range of experience levels.
There are currently around 60 participants training with the club with a mix of both boys and girls.
Recreational and competitive groups are available for ages 5-16, with the club regularly represented at competitions across Scotland.
The club already cater for 3-5 year olds in their 'Little Hillies' group and will soon be starting the 'Mini Hillies' group for 18 months-3 years old.
There have been some grand changes at the club in terms of coaching recently, and they are currently in the process of rebuilding.
There is currently a waiting list for the under-3s Mini Hillies group as the management staff attempt to shuffle the club around to accommodate a new group they consider very important.
Manager Gina Cardillo said, "The Mini Hillies has been in the works for a while now, but because of the changes to coaching and so on we've been very busy. We've organised a waiting list for members and we're hoping to be able to start the classes soon, once we've jigged other parts of the club around to make room for what we want to be doing."
Another result of the rebuild has been the reduction of competitions the club have attended recently. As it stands the group in recent weeks manages two to three competitions a year, but Gina is keen for her students to get back to competing soon.
She said, "A lot of the girls at our Dundonald event were actually attending their first ever competition, which shows you how tough it's been lately to get to these things. Our 12 years-plus group for example are at a very good level, and they usually bring back some very good results from the competitions they do enter. Sadly, we haven't attended that many for a while."
The club have enjoyed success at recent competitive events. At the Dundonald Gymnastics Club Floor and Vault Competition mentioned by Gina, held in Ayr on June 24, members of the club achieved some very respectable finishes.
In the Individual category, Jade Morton finished third in the age 10-11 age band.
In the Team categories, the Beginners 12 years+ team of Katie Warnock, Chloe Douglas, Louise Johnston and Jennifer Grant finished third.
The Intermediate 12 years+ team went one better and finished in second, thanks to the great effort of team members Erin McClements, Carly Derrick, Alison Grant and Zoe Reed.
The Club trains at Alva Academy on Tuesdays 6pm-9pm and Saturdays 10am-3pm, and at Lornshill Academy on Thursdays 6pm-8pm.
