Swim star makes a splash at ASA Youth Champs
A TOP swimming prospect from Alloa has topped off a whirlwind year by clinching a bronze medal at the recent British Gas ASA Youth Championships in Sheffield.
Duncan Scott, who has only recently turned 15, swam across four different events in the 15-16 year age group at the championships.
He posted excellent times for all four events to reach the semi finals before going on to reach the final in three out of the four disciplines.
The 15-year-old swam a new Scottish record for the 400 Individual Medley at his age group to clinch the bronze medal.
This was the finale to what has been an extraordinary year for the young prospect.
Duncan Scott told Advertiser Sport, "I was very pleased. I wasn't really expecting such a positive result so I was a bit overwhelmed by the moment. My full year has been good for me and is probably my best so far. This was my first major medal and to get it by breaking my first Scottish record made it even more special."
Duncan has a swimming scholarship at Strathallan school in Perthshire where he is coached by former commonwealth swimmer Elaine Johnston (Gilfinnan).
The young swimmer is also a member of Bo'ness ASC and is part of an elite group of swimmers from Bo'ness to train with Alloa resident Steven Tigg at FIRST.
Duncan says that watching Team GB's success at the Olympics has made him determined to experience it for himself in the future.
Duncan Scott said, "It is amazing to see how hard they have all worked to get there and so that inspires you to go achieve the same. I would like to go and try to qualify for the European Junior team at the end of next year but I also hope to one day compete at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics in the future."
In May, the Alloa resident swam for Scotland East and South at the UK school games where he won gold in the 200IM and silver in the 400IM.
At the recent Scottish Open, held at the newly opened Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, Duncan won two Scottish Junior titles, in the 400IM and the 200 butterfly.
