MIDFIELDER Gary Carroll believes there’s nobody better in the Super League than Sauchie when they’re at their best.

But Carroll also admits the team are amongst the league’s worst outfits when things don’t click for them.

And the Sauchie stalwart says they need to strive for the consistency shown by sides like Broxburn Athletic, the team that left Beechwood Park on Saturday on the wrong end of a 5-2 defeat.

Carroll told Advertiser Sport, “On our day there isn’t a better team than us in the league, but then again when we’re not on our day we’re one of the worst.

“But we know if we keep playing with confidence and try to get the ball down and play football, we’ll do well for the rest of the season.

“Broxburn aren’t a spectacular side but they keep getting the results and that’s the type of team we need to be.

“We can play well together but when we’re not, we need to be able to grind games out and get results.

“That’s the best we’ve played all season in the first half and all five goals were excellent. “It was always going to be hard, Broxburn are a good team and we’ve always found it difficult against them whether it’s home or away so it’s a brilliant result for us. We should have beat them last time we played them so we wanted to get one back.” Gary revealed the team spirit is at an all-time high within the club as the players have rallied together following their Scottish Cup defeat to Camelon a few weeks ago.

And the results since then prove him right as Fraser’s boys have clocked up three wins and a draw in their last four outings.

Gary continued, “It’s a different team these last few weeks, we’re all playing for each other. It could have all gone downhill from the Camelon game and that was the worry, that the heads would have just went down, but we’ve stuck together and we want to push on and finish as high up the table as possible.

“It’s good that the guys who are playing are the ones who have been here for a few years, we all get on well with each other and we just need to prove now that we can play together. The team spirit is as high as it’s been for a long time. We’re playing with freedom and we’re not afraid to get on the ball.”
