THRILLED Sauchie manager Fraser Duncan commended his players for their performance in Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Broxburn Athletic.

Doubles from Darren Cummings and Collin Samuel added to Calum Hendrie’s fifth goal in five games to give the hosts a well deserved win that moves them into seventh place in the East Region Super League.

And Fraser was chuffed with the way his players went about things in the first half as they blew Broxburn away en route to a 4-1 half time lead.

He told Advertiser Sport, “We started the game well, we knocked the ball about quickly and they got the goal against the run of play to be honest. But it was a great response from the guys from there. We were actually against the wind in the first half and we still played really well. We did some really good things and we were driving forward constantly, putting pressure on all the time and we finished our chances.

“Second half we needed to come out and finish the game off but it took us a long time to get going. Broxburn scored and we pushed up the park and scored right away again, that’s a great reply twice.

“We’ve been doing well the last few weeks, putting in performances and digging out the results that we’ve needed to. But this was a more difficult task, Broxburn are right up in fourth or fifth place, so it was always going to be a hard game.” The gaffer now firmly believes Sauchie are safe from the relegation battle after accruing 10 points from their last four games.

He continued, “For me this is a milestone having got 10 points from the last four games, to me that keeps us nice and safe now. We’ve got a cup game next which takes us away from the league and we’re looking forward to it.” And Fraser was delighted with the quality of all five goals, praising his attacking trio for their efforts.

Duncan added, “The boys have all done really well for their goals, Sammy, Daz and Calum. They’re five great goals and it’s good to see them spread out amongst the boys.

“I’m pleased to see Calum keep his run going because he’s been needing that. I need to give Calum and Daz their due, they’re playing up top and they’re doing very well.

“Gary Carroll’s done very well too, he’s done some great things and created a couple of goals with some quality crosses so I’m delighted with him. I’m chuffed with everybody from back to front, I can’t fault anybody in the team.”
