Beechwood Park hero Brian Morgan has revealed how he is desperate to make up for lost time in this season’s East of Scotland Cup after missing last year’s final.

The midfield maestro missed out on the 4-1 win over Arniston Rangers last season as he was away on his stag do in the build up to his wedding and now he is determined to lead his side on another glorious cup run this time around.

Sauchie have lost both games after the Christmas break, but the midfielder says they will be ready for the challenge of beating a Broxburn side who snatched a fortunate last gasp 2-2 draw in Clackmannanshire in their last encounter.

Morgan told Advertiser sport: “I think the festive break has caught us cold a little bit so it is important for to get back to business and make sure we progress in the cup. We have an extra incentive going into the Broxburn game now because they stole a point from us at Beechwood in the league the last time we played.

“We felt we were the better team that day and led 2-0 in the final stages of that, but somehow they left with a 2-2 draw and so we will definitely be looking to put that right on Saturday.

“This competition has a personal meaning for me because I missed the final last year so I am desperate to have that experience of playing in the final. Even although I played my part earlier in the competition last season I still felt like I didn’t really win it so I am desperate to put that right this time around and it is some extra motivation for me.” Morgan scored the opener last weekend - his fourth of the season - in the 2-1 loss to Camelon and is now hopeful of more to take the pressure off the forwards, but he reckons the whole squad must also look to stamp out the individual errors that have plagued them this season.

He said: “We keep making basic errors and that isn’t doing us any favours because we are gifting teams goals at times and it is putting even more pressure on our attack. When we got the lead at the weekend and really took the game to them, we should go on and win the game from there with the dominance we had, but it wasn’t to be and now we need to work hard to turn things around.

“My goal on Saturday took a deflection on its way in, but I will take them anyway they come and hopefully I can keep chipping in with the odd goal to take some pressure off the guys up front.” The 24-year-old admits the whole dressing room was left angered by their failure to beat local rivals Camelon last weekend, but says they will look to use that emotion this weekend.

Morgan added, “Last weekend Camelon just sat in and absorbed the pressure and it felt like we were all over them, but just couldn’t find that killer touch. They were really fortunate to win, but they just kept looking to hit us on the break and took their chances when they came.

“It is frustrating because we know we should be beating them and that’s the last two clashes with them where we have lost when we should’ve won them so that is disappointing, but we will just look to take that frustration out on Broxburn now.”
