Returning hero Dougie Wilson admits it was his love of the game that brought about his latest spell at Sauchie Juniors.

The former Alloa Athletic star left Beechwood Park two years ago and he revealed he has missed the buzz of being in the dressing room.

Wilson also says that gaffer Fraser Duncan has been trying to convince him for over a year and in the end the chance to return was too much for him to resist.

The talented winger told Advertiser sport: “Fraser has assembled a great squad here so it didn’t take him very long to convince me to come back again. He has been on at me for a while to come back and I finally gave in. I ended up missing football too much.

“I gave it up for personal reasons with work commitments, the birth of my son and everything else it just became too much, but I have always been fond of Sauchie so it was an easy decision to come back.

“It was a really tough decision to give it up even although it was the right thing to do at that time, but I am a lot more settled now and it was a very easy decision to come back because I know most of the boys and it is a great dressing room at Beechwood.” Wilson reckons he has re-signed at the perfect time because it is almost the same squad as when he left due to so many former players coming back and he hopes that will help him ease back into the thick of the action.

He said: “It is a big help obviously that I know all of the lads because I can hit the ground running now with the likes of Alan Comrie returning recently from Norway as well as the Dolan brothers coming back this season as well, but it is good for the club that the squad is full of local boys.

“I am still toiling for fitness a wee bit so that will be take me a few weeks to get up to speed. Fraser is good that way though, in that he won’t just rush me back in until I am fully fit, but I can’t wait to get started again.

“I have been desperate to get back involved and so hopefully now I can play my part for the rest of the season.

“We have a decent squad here and I just want to do well again, but I know I will have to work hard to fight my way back into the team - I wouldn’t have it any other way.” The 30-year-old attacker was delighted to see his old team mates seal cup glory in the East of Scotland final at the end of last season.

And he admits it has left him hungry for a a winner’s medal of his own this season.

Wilson added: “It was great to see to lads win the East of Scotland Cup last season, but I was definitely jealous when I saw them all out celebrating with the trophy so I would love the chance to help them retain it.”
