Alloa ABC’s top quartet of fighters continued their impressive start to the season with another impressive showing this time at the Intermediate Scottish Championships at Ravenscraig Regional Sport Facility in Motherwell earlier this month.

Dylan Smith, who is only 11-years-old, kicked off Alloa’s boxing season in style back in October by lifting the Scottish Novice title. Young Dylan showed great potential in beating his two opponents to prove that he has a bright future in boxing.

Looking to build on that success, it was the turn of talented trio TJ O’Neil, Brandon Brown and Anas Nfaou.

TJ O’Neil entered the Intermediate Scottish Championships for the second time after winning silver his first time round. The 15-year-old showed great determination and dedication, as he went up against Perth Railways Lewis Henderson, who had only lost twice in 11 bouts. Young TJ started off fast putting his combinations together and showing great skill against a tough opponent. TJ in the end, ran out a clear winner and received a well deserved gold medal after what was a very mature performance from such a young lad.

Brandon Brown former Scottish and Eastern District Champion also fought at the same Championships.

The 17-year-old, who was making his come back after 1½ years absence from the sport, showed little signs of ring rust as he picked up a silver medal against an experienced opponent from Lochend. Brandon has a very bright future in the sport, and this certainly won’t be the last we hear of him.

Anas Nfaou entered the Scottish University Championships at middle weight which is a very popular weight division for his age group.

The 20-year-old was drawn against Ryan Peet from Edinburgh University in the quarter final. Anas started of really fast catching his opponent with some solid shots in the first round giving his opponent a standing count at the end of the first round then going on to stop him in the second.

In the semi-final, the Alloa ABC fighter was up against a competitor from Dundee University, but he proved to be far too strong for his opponent rocking him with a straight right hand and going on to force his second stoppage of the competition.

In the final, Anas faced a student from Inverness University and what a final it was with both boys going at it from the first round.

Anas threw some superb combinations and boxed really well at distance, forcing his opponent to take a count in the third round as he went on to win on all judges cards in a very exciting fight. Winning gold is a great achievement from someone who has only been boxing for eight months.
