Kinross RFC 1st XV……………10
Alloa RFC 1st XV……………… 61

Alloa RFC travelled to third place Kinross after a week off following a last minute fixture cancellation when Madras RFC failed to raise a team for their scheduled trip to Earlsfield last Saturday.

This disappointment was further compounded with news of their withdrawal from the league which put a big dent in Alloa’s point differential, with all previous league games involving the St Andrews side now being declared nil and void.

Undaunted, the Alloa side made the trip to the King George V playing fields which has not been the happiest of hunting grounds in the past in the search for bonus points, but as things transpired Alloa sent out another message that they are a hugely improved side this season.

The Wee County side have now only lost one competitive match all season to a last second try to Gordonians who lead the division above.

The Earlsfield side got off to the perfect start following a great break in the centre by Rab Truesdale and a well executed offload to Matt Pope produced a try in the first minute.

Scrum half Martin McKenzie then ran in a couple of tries - the first with more than a hint of a knock-on - the second an absolutely brilliant solo effort. Lee Cairney squeezed in a try in between times and the bonus point was secured within 20 minutes.

Cairney slotted all four conversions and went on to bag eight from nine during the afternoon.

Kinross saw more of the ball towards the latter stages of the first half and kicked a penalty (HT 3-28) and their forwards rumbled over for a try shortly after the break.

However Truesdale and Pope continued to rip holes in the Kinross defence and both crossed twice as the home defence crumbled. Phil Edwards crossed for a ninth and final try.

Edwards’ younger brother, Alastair was deservedly given the Man of the Match award for his efforts both in attack, where he continually made ground all afternoon and in defence, where he put in a number of big hits.

Alloa now face a series of visits from Tayside clubs starting on Saturday when Morgan travel to Earlsfield culminating with the much anticipated showdown with Harris on Saturday, April 9th.
