Gordonians 1st XV......51
Alloa 1st XV...............15

BT Caledonia League, Division 1

ALLOA made their first trip up north this season and also tasted defeat for the first time.

The Countesswell pitches were in perfect condition for running rugby and There were ominous signs as Gordonians scored in the first five minutes after Alloa missed their first tackle.

However a great break and offload by Rab Truesdale put Daniel Murrell over in the corner. Lee Cairney struck over the touchline conversion to give Alloa a narrow lead.

Gordonians went on to score second and third tries in the first quarter but Alloa again replied to each score. Cairney struck a penalty and then Truesdale carved through the Gordonians defence.

Alloa were still very much in the game at this point and even a home penalty on the stroke of half time (22-15) meant they were still within a score of tying the match.

A home penalty on the stroke of half-time made it 22-15 to Gordonians at the break.

Alloa went straight into attack after the break and came agonisingly close to squaring the match as they pounded the Gordonians line. However the home side stood firm and cut loose from deep to collect their bonus-point try.

Midway through the half with Gordonians a man down following a yellow card for killing the ball once too often, Alloa again failed to convert pressure and were soon standing behind their own posts a further try behind.

The momentum was very much with home side now as Alloa tired and emptied their bench.

Gordonians were then clinical in their finishing as they stretched clear for what was an emphatic win in the end.

Alloa return to Earlsfield this Saturday when Glenrothes are the visitors. Kick-off 3pm.
