Gary Bonnes says he and his Sauchie team-mates are looking forward to Saturday's Scottish Cup clash with Kilwinning two years on from their last visit to Ayrshire.

The wideman scored the winner that day as Sauchie battled to a 2-1 victory and he is hoping that they can repeat their heroics this time around.

Bonnes told Advertiser sport: “We are looking forward to it. We played them two years ago and managed to get a 2-1 win so we are looking forward to going back down there. It was a good place to go with some tough fans.

“I actually scored the winner last time we went there. We were down to ten men and it was quite a scrappy game. Me and Symie had been working on overlapping in training and we linked up. It meant I was able to pop up with the winner which was great.

Bonnes admitted the chance to go on a run in the Scottish Cup is one the club should be looking to take and he is hoping they can go as far as possible in this year's competition.

The 26-year-old is confident Sauchie can bounce back from Saturday's Super League defeat at the hands of Carnoustie and says the players are feeling positive.

He said: “It's massive for us. We have been up and down all season but this is the one you want to win. It's the biggest cup you can be in. We have already been put out one of the cups so it's majorly important for us. We want to stay in it as long as possible and that has helped the atmosphere around the club.

“The mood is pretty positive. The boys are obviously very disappointed with Saturday's performance as we have been playing well over the past few weeks but we know we can pick ourselves up. This is one of those games that everyone looks forward to so the mood is pretty good.”

Bonnes believes a win on Saturday can be the catalyst for Sauchie to find some consistency and go on to enjoy a successful campaign.

He added: “We have had a few dips this season, particularly after good results so it is vitally important that we get the win and go into the next round of the cup. Hopefully we are able to kick-start our season and get back on track.”
