SAUCHIE ace Josh Flood admitted his first goal for the club was something of a collector's item after he headed an injury-time equaliser as the Beechwood Park side snatched a draw in their Super League clash with Newtongrange.

The former Stirling Albion winger says his team could even have beaten Star but was happy to settle for one point after battling back from 2-1 down.

Flood told Advertiser Sport: “It was great to score in the last minute, especially with a header because I'm about five foot nothing! That's my first goal for the club so I am delighted. I haven't played as many games as I would have liked because they keep getting called off because of the weather. I'm glad I've finally scored. It's great to get the first goal out the way.

“The team never know when to give up. We battled for it and we could even have won it. We had enough chances and I think on another day we would have won the game. I thought we were unlucky not to win. But we managed to get a draw which is much better than getting beaten.”

The Wee County side have turned things around in recent weeks after a poor run of form before Christmas, and Flood says the experience of Darren Cummings and Iain Diack has played a vital role.

He said: “I don't think much has changed. We weren't on the best of runs before Christmas but the gaffer has made a couple of good signings, particularly with Daz coming back. That has helped a lot. He is a great player with a lot of experience, and him and Iain Diack up front means we have got a good cutting edge.”

Sauchie are unbeaten in 2016 and Flood believes they can keep that run going when they visit Broughty Athletic on Saturday.

He added: “We've got four points out of six from the start of this year and we are looking to continue that on Saturday. I don't know a lot about them as I've never played up there but it looks like it will be a hard place to go. We will need to dig in and work hard to make sure we get the result. Confidence is high just now given that we are on a bit of run. The boys will be up for it and we are confident we can get the three points.”
