Fraser Duncan blasted the condition of Tayport’s pitch after his Sauchie side had to battle back from two goals down to claim a point from Saturday’s Super League clash.

The Beechwood Park boss revealed he was forced to change his tactics ahead of the clash with the league’s bottom club and says the playing surface had an impact on the eventual outcome.

However, the manager believes that even despite the underfoot conditions, his team should have taken all three points back to Clackmannanshire.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “It is definitely two points dropped from my point of view. Tayport have always had a good park and I was looking forward to the game. It would have given us a chance to get the ball down and play but the pitch was an absolute disgrace.

"I have seen better public parks if I am being honest. It dragged us down to their level and like at Broughty last time, we had to change the game plan because we couldn’t get the ball down and play football.

“It was hard for us to adjust and in the first half we didn’t do that at all. We had to go route one but we didn’t start doing that until we were already 2-0 down. We were the better team for the whole second half but by that point Tayport were just sitting in behind the ball and hitting us on the break.

“Some of the boys were saying at half time that they would be happy with the draw but personally I was disappointed we didn’t get the win. We should have won it, especially with the chances we had.”

Despite failing to seal a victory on Saturday the Juniors are still unbeaten in 2016, and Duncan says they have put themselves in a good position as the season enters its final stages.

He said: “I said to the boys that things are in our hands. We still have to play all the teams below us and a lot of them have to come to Beechwood. We are in a similar position to last year, but this time last year we went on a run and started picking up points. If we had won on Saturday it would really have pushed us on.”

Sauchie are aiming to get back to winning ways when they host Broxburn on Saturday, but Duncan is expecting the side from West Lothian to provide stiff opposition.

He added: “We have a big chance to get the three points against Broxburn but they are playing well. They have got a couple of players who I would have liked to sign so fair play to them for managing to sign them.

"On Saturday we showed our fighting spirit, but we will work hard on defending this week because we gave things away too easily last weekend.”
