Broxburn Athletic (2) 4

SAUCHIE'S two goal comeback was not enough as two late goals consigned them to 4-2 defeat in their McBookies.com Super League clash with Broxburn last weekend.

The first half was a bit of a nightmare for the home side with many decisions going against them and having a bearing on the outcome of the match.

It was down to bare bones for team choice on Saturday with injuries and work commitments denying the use of key players.

Ross Harkness was between the sticks and a reshuffled back four saw Gary McCulloch, Roger Duffin, Jon Tully and Reece Boyle line up for the first time together. Ryan Millar started up front with Ian Diack as a new pairing.

The visitors took the lead on six minutes after they were awarded an early penalty.

A long clearance saw a chase between Duffin and Zander Millar saw the forward tumbling just inside the box and Mr Grieve pointed to the spot. Kieron Anderson stroked home the spot kick.

Sauchie looked to respond and pushed forward with Iain Syme linking with Diack to set up Brian Morgan on the 18 yard line, but his effort being blocked.

A poor clearance from defence then allowed Millar to advance on the Sauchie goal and he picked out Darren Dalrymple at the far post and his shot beat the keeper, but it was cleared off the line by Boyle.

Millar was causing the Sauchie defence a lot of trouble and he soon helped the visitors double their advantage. He collected another poor clearance to dash into the box and square for Anderson who blasted homefor a 2-0 lead after just 16 minutes.

The visitors could have been three up, but when Dalrymple's shot was turned home by Nick Lock the linesman's flag came to Sauchie's rescue.

Sauchie were back in the game just two minutesafter the restart.

Syme and Josh Flood found hard on the left with the ball being played to McCulloch who smashed a stunning half volley into the far postage stamp corner from 30 yards.

Ryan Millar then produced a good save from the Broxburn keeper as skipper Brian Morgan and David Morrison drove Sauchie forward from midfield.

The Beechwood Park men thought they'd levelled the match when Millar released Diack in on goal to score, but the stand side assistant had flagged for offside and the goal did not stand.

Callum Robertson came on for Duffin for the closing stages and made an instant impact with a well taken goal to level the match on 81 minutes. Morgan did well to move through and sent the ball across the box for Robertson to smash home for 2-2.

The joy was short-lived, however, as the visitors regained the lead just two minutes later. Mike Willems sprinted down the Broxburn right to cross and Lock was there to head home.

The visitors made sure of the three points with a minute to go when untidy defending in the Sauchie ranks saw Millar gain possession to lay on Anderson for his hat-trick.
