Fraser Duncan was delighted with Sauchie Juniors' emphatic Super League victory over Fauldhouse, but he admitted the game could have gone differently if the home side had taken their early chances.

The Beechwood Park side found themselves on the back foot early on and Ross Harkness was forced into a great save before they clicked into gear and ran riot in West Lothian.

The manager reserved special praise for midfielder David Morrison, who scored a hat-trick as the Wee County outfit eventually won 6-2, writes Jamie Hall.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: “It isn't as rosy as it might look on paper because Fauldhouse have had three or four chances early on. Ross has made a good save and we have cleared it off the line. We have gone up the other end and scored, and then five minutes later they have come back at us with three or four chances.

"At 3-0 I said to the boys to sit tight and let the game settle, but we tried to go up the park and lost the ball, Fauldhouse broke away and they scored. It was backs to the wall for about five minutes before we broke away and scored again. They didn't know what had hit them and it was done and dusted at half time.

“Morri gets his three goals through pure endeavour and desire to get on the end of things. For me, he was fantastic and you have got to say he was man of the match on Saturday because of his goals. He has been very, very good this year. He has worked really hard and I just want him to keep doing what he is doing.”

Despite the victory, Duncan once again took issue with the referee, and he believes the officials made a number of incorrect decisions for both sides.

He said: “I thought the officials were poor again on Saturday, especially for Fauldhouse. He sent one of their players off when there was no need and he sent their assistant off when there was no need.

"I just think referees are getting a bit carried away with themselves. Some of the decision-making has been terrible for both teams and it took the shine off the game a bit. But in the end we are delighted to have got the points.”

Sauchie will now turn their attentions to the Fife and Lothians Cup, with a trip to Lochore Welfare in store on Saturday for Duncan and his players.

He added: “There is never an easy game. We just have to concentrate on our own game. We don't want to be out of the cup and be finished before everybody else is.

"We have got to keep ourselves in it, but Lochore will be in the same boat. It is their cup final, and it is important that we go about it in the right way.”
