Sauchie Juniors (0) 0

Bonnyrigg Rose (0) 2

TABLE-TOPPERS Bonnyrigg Rose left Beechwood Park with all three points after a late 2-0 win last weekend over hosts Sauchie Juniors.

The Wee County outfit were long odds and knew this was going to be a tough encounter.

It was stalwart defending but in the end were beaten by a clever set piece and an outstanding goal.

Fraser Duncan had Darren Cummings back in the starting line up to replace the injured David Morrison.

Kyle Richford came back in following a head knock and early substitution against Broughty.

Sauchie made a bright start with Alan Comrie linking well with Ian Diack and Cummings and forced an early corner.

Cummings placed the ball into the six yard box and headered down by Jon Tully with Diacks’ shot on the turn blocked on route to goal.

The visitors stepped up a gear. Lewis Turner accelerated down the right wing with his low cross being cleared by Jordan Tapping with Keiran McGachie in attendance.

Chris Tobin and Ruaridh Donaldson combined on the left with the full back cutting into the box but sent his shot flying over.

The home defence were standing solid against wave after wave of Rose attacks. McGachie was proving a handful as he brushed tackles aside and toyed with the Sauchie defence.

Jordan Allan sprang into action, leaping to touch over a McGachie powerful header off a Donaldson free kick.

Stevie Dolan was kept busy in the heart of the rearguard clearing crosses from right and left time after time.

Sauchie were unable to retain the ball for any length of time with Andy Kidd and Ross Archibald quickly closing down Comrie, Josh Flood and Gary McCulloch to keep the pressure in the Sauchie half.

Tully forced into the box after the break to get on the end of a Flood cross but the defender could only direct his header over the top from good position.

The Rose picked up their attacking mode once again with Wayne McIntosh firing a crisp effort from 25 yards inches over. Kidd then made space forcing Allan to dive full length to deny the rasper of a shot.

Tully, Richford, Dolan and Cummings all received yellow cards for minor infringements in a match that was going at full speed.

The visitors took the lead in 70 minutes and a well worked set piece it was.

Bonnyrigg were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal with Donaldson playing the ball into the feet of McGachie who moved to the bye line and squared for McIntosh to bury into the net from three yards.

The Sauchie keeper then made a super stop from a shot by substitute Fraser McLaren as the Rose kept up the pressure/

McGachie settled the game in favour of the visitors in 85 minutes with a stunning piece of play and finish.

The centre took control of the ball darting between Tully and Tapping to release Scott Gray who moved down the left and crossed into the box for McGachie to volley in off the post from 12 yards.
