SAUCHIE boss Fraser Duncan admits his side face an anxious few weeks as they wait to find out their fate at the foot of in the McBookie.com Super League East.

The Wee County side lost 2-0 away to rivals Camelon in their final league match last Wednesday and the manager was left furious by the manner of that defeat.

While Duncan's men have completed their schedule for the season and lie in 10th spot with 32 points, but they can still mathematically be caught by the bottom three sides in the table, St Andrews, Tayport and Fauldhouse, due to games in hand and the gaffer admits they will have to stay alert in case they get dragged into the playoff spot.

Duncan told Advertiser sport: “It was such a disappointing way to end the campaign because the Linlithgow game had brought us the opportunity to seize our own destiny and guarantee our safety. We haven't done that and now we must wait to see if we will be caught. I certainly think we have a couple of weeks worrying now and I will have to maybe go and watch a few games in case we get dragged into the playoff game.

“It was a Jekyll and Hyde performance from us when you compare it to beating Linlithgow last week. We were brilliant in that game, but in contrast we were absolutely rotten against Camelon and that is disappointing. You can't afford to gift a team like Camelon a goal of a start because they are just then going to stick in and frustrate us and that's exactly what they did. There wasn't a lot of luck that went for us on the night either.

“You'd think with us fighting for our lives the players would show a bit more fight than that, but they've let me down and I am not going to hide that. It has happened all season where we have one good performance and let ourselves down the next game and so this result just sums up our campaign.”

Duncan revealed he will now wield the axe this summer and look to rebuild a new look side this summer after reaching the end of his patience with some inconsistent performances from his players over the course of the season.

The Beechwood Park gaffer expects to be busy over the summer months to attract the right talent to the club and hopes to expand the squad for next season after being left exposed with only 16 in the pool this term.

He said: “I can't protect the players any longer because they haven't been good enough and some of them will definitely be moving on in the summer. There are a few who need to take a long hard look at themselves and unfortunately some of them will have plenty of time to do that. We need a strong recruitment process now over the course of the off season because I will not put up with another season like this one. The squad will need to be around 18 or 20 next year because the 16-man squad just hasn't worked out for us this year. I want to bring a lot of new players in the door this summer, so I expect it to be a busy one, but we have to get it right this time because we certainly didn't last season. Heads will have to roll because of the standard of performances this season. We will need big changes and that's just the way it is.”

The 32-year-old was left furious with the sending off of midfielder Ant McTaggart during the loss at Camelon and believes it highlights the overall poor standard of refereeing in the league this season, something he feels the powers that be must address as a matter of urgency ahead of the new campaign.

Duncan added: “The sending off decision was just deplorable. Ant McTaggart made two tackles all game and finds himself which I think is a total joke. You could say their player is trying to get him sent off, but the referee has got to see through that and he hasn't. It is not good enough from the official. If I am crticising my players for their poor performance on the night, I think the showing from the referee was even worse than that. The league is letting every manager down at the minute with the standard of referees this season. That is something that, in my opinion, they will need to look at very seriously for next year.”
