Sauchie ace Josh Flood was delighted with his side's 2-0 victory over Armadale on Saturday and says he is relieved to be back among the goals.

The winger struck with a goal in each half to keep Sauchie's title charge on track in their final game before the Junior game takes its annual winter break.

And the former Stirling Albion man is hoping he can add more goals to his game and help propel the Wee County outfit to promotion.

Flood told Advertiser Sport: “We are pretty pleased with how the game went on Saturday. We had a couple of injuries and a few boys have left over the past couple of weeks so we were a bit thin on the ground, but we were very professional and managed to get the result.

"To be honest we dominated the game and didn't really let them get a sniff. It's nice to get on the scoresheet too – it hasn't happened very much so far this season so to score twice is always a bit of a bonus. Hopefully I will be able to add a few more goals over the course of the rest of the season.”

Sauchie remain a point adrift of league leaders Forfar West End but have three games in hand, and Flood believes they are in a perfect position at the halfway point of the season.

He said: “We are still only a point behind with three games in hand so we are in a good position going into the second half of the season. Winning the league and getting promoted back to the Super League is obviously our number one priority for the season so to be up there at this stage is a really good sign.

"It is a little bit disappointing that we won't have the chance to go top before the winter break but we are delighted with the position we are in just now.”

Sauchie's final game before the winter break is a trip to Brechin Victoria in the East of Scotland Cup, and Flood is expecting a tough encounter with the North Division side.

He added: “We actually played Brechin in the Scottish Cup earlier in the season so we know a bit about them. To be fair to them they are not a bad side so we will need to make sure we are on top of our game.

"The league is our bread and butter but we want to do well in all the cups. We are still in two of the three cup competitions so hopefully we will be able to go on a bit of a cup run.

"It is always nice to do well in the cups as it gives us a chance of more silverware at the end of the season. Hopefully we can go on a bit of a run as that is something for the fans to enjoy as well.”
