Sauchie Juniors FC have this week been plunged further into turmoil, following the resignation of its entire committee.

The Beechwood Park club, who were already without a manager after Fraser Duncan quit a fortnight ago following an internal dispute, have come increasingly under fire from supporters in recent weeks.

Duncan previously Advertiser Sport that he left because he felt unable to work with some members of the new committee.

Crisis talks were held last week as committee members and management sought to resolve the issues surrounding the club, which was this season promoted back to the East Region Super League.

However, on Monday evening, it was announced via the club’s social media channels that chairman Mike Bennett had decided to step down from his post.

That shock announcement was then followed by another revelation just hours later, which revealed that all remaining committee members had walked out.

An extraordinary general meeting has since been called for 7.30pm on Friday June 16, in the lounge at Sauchie’s Beechwood Park ground, with all supporters urged to attend.

The developments mark the latest in a growing series of dramatic events which have threatened to overshadow the club’s highly-successful season on the pitch.

Having dropped out of the Super League thanks to a relegation playoff defeat to Lochee at the end of last season, Sauchie set their sights on an immediate return and were the early Premier League pacesetters, dropping points in just two games prior to the winter break.

And despite a late-season wobble, the Wee County side eventually clinched top spot, finishing six points ahead of nearest challengers Kennoway Star Hearts.

Sauchie also made history in the Scottish Junior Cup, reaching the quarter-finals before being narrowly defeated by eventual winners Glenafton Athletic.

But those achievements could now be overshadowed by events behind the scenes, as those in power at the club look to find a solution ahead of the new season.
