Sauchie.......................3
Camelon.....................1

Scottish Junior Cup, third round

SAUCHIE boss Fraser Duncan dedicated his side's Scottish Cup victory over Camelon to the club's loyal supporters.

The Wee County side marched into the fourth round as they beat their local rivals to set up a clash with Bellshill Athletic in January.

The manager thanked the fans for their patience and says Sauchie can now enjoy their winter break.

Duncan told Advertiser Sport: "It's a great result for the fans because they have had to be patient. There was a big crowd which was great to see. I feel we've given something back to them with that result, and I really hope they enjoyed themselves.

"It's always important to stay in the Scottish Cup as long as you can and it will be a sore one for Camelon.

"They will be hurting at having been knocked out in the last game before Christmas, but from our point of view we can go and enjoy our break now.

"We've got a couple of league games after Christmas and then we're right back into the cup which we're looking forward to.

"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't looked at the next round or thought about Bellshill's game against Ashfield before the Camelon game, but we had to put it out of our minds. Now we can look forward to it."

Duncan admitted he had been confident of getting a result after watching his team train last week, and he was delighted with Sauchie's performance as they attacked Camelon from the first whistle.

He said: "Training was good in the week leading up to the game and we were right in the mood for it. I had a good feeling before the game.

"I'm chuffed to bits with the performance. We were the better team throughout the game and really took the game to them.

"Brian Morgan has scored a screamer and I don't think any keeper in the world would have saved it.

"As soon as he took the touch I was screaming at him to shoot. He's got that in his locker, and he was outstanding all day.

"Although Camelon pegged us back I felt we were always on the front foot and always had the momentum.

"What pleased me was the way we were always looking to create something. We took the game by the scruff of the neck."

Although they went in at half time with the scores level, Sauchie pulled away in the second half and Duncan reckons the scoreline could have made for even more grim reading for the visitors if his side had converted the chances they created.

He added: "I felt at half time that if we upped the tempo we'd go on to win and that's what we did.

"3-1 is a great result but we had chances to go and get another couple of goals. It could have been a lot worse for Camelon than it was.

"Darren Dolan has pulled off a great save at 2-1 when the game was in the balance, but that was one of two chances they created in the second half whereas we created six or seven. I'm delighted with the way the boys went about their business."
