SAUCHIE star Ant McTaggart is targeting another run in the Scottish Cup ahead of Saturday's fourth-round trip to Bellshill.

The Juniors reached the quarter-finals last year before losing out to eventual winners Glenafton, and McTaggart believes reaching the latter stages of the competition again would represented a great achievement.

But the midfielder's main focus is on Saturday's tie and he says the squad will have to be at their best.

McTaggart told Advertiser Sport: "We went on a good run last year and we are definitely looking to do the same this season.

"It's the biggest competition in Junior football so you always want to go as far as you can go. We know how difficult it is because there are a lot of good teams in the competition.

"It won't be an easy game through in Bellshill. It's going to be a battle.

"In the Scottish Cup anything can happen and they will go into it thinking they can get a result as well.

"We will need to go through there and work hard for each other. We want to play football but the main thing is the result."

Despite a succession of winter postponements, McTaggart says his side are improving all the time, and backed them to keep picking up results in the second half of the season.

He said: "We've only had two games in about nine weeks so it's been tough to get a bit of momentum going. But we had a good win against Camelon and then beat Penicuik last week so we have put a good run of results together. The main thing has been trying to maintain a bit of match fitness. The more games we play, the better that will get and the more we'll improve."

The midfield ace believes the team spirit at Sauchie has helped the Beechwood Park side turn their fortunes around this season and is hopeful that they can replicate their recent displays at Rockburn Park this weekend.

McTaggart added: "We are a lot better now than we were earlier in the season. We are solid at the back, the midfield is good and we're scoring goals up front.

"There is a good buzz about the place just now because we have got a settled team and we're picking up results.

"Some of the new signings who have come in have really helped. We're playing with confidence and we're looking forward to every game.

"We're getting better every week and hopefully we can take our recent performances into the game on Saturday."
