SAUCHIE star Conor Kelly admitted he has experienced both ends of the emotional spectrum in the past week.

The striker was controversially sent off in last Wednesday’s draw at Bo’ness, but had a hand in both goals in his side’s victory over Camelon, setting up Brian Morgan’s opener before netting the winner himself.

And the top scorer is hoping his winning goal will give him a route back into the starting lineup after he has served his suspension.

Kelly told Advertiser Sport: “I’ve experienced the highs and lows of football this week after getting sent off against Bo’ness and scoring the winner against Camelon.

"I knew I had to put a good performance in because I’m going to be suspended for the next game. I wanted to give myself a chance of getting back in the team when I’m available again!

“Me and Morgy linked up really well for the first. It was a nice passage of play and it’s a really good finish from him.

“It’s great to have got what turned out to be the winner again. The ball has broken to me and I’ve just had to react as quickly as I could.

"I didn’t have much time to think about it, but thankfully it’s found the back of the net.”

Kelly, who has been in a rich vein of goalscoring form, admitted that Sauchie’s first-half performance left a lot to be desired, and he reckons some harsh words from manager Fraser Duncan were just what the squad needed as they turned in a much-improved second period.

He said: “We never got started in the first half and we knew that ourselves. The gaffer told us a few home truths at half time which I think we needed.

"After that we came out fired up and everyone, to a man, was excellent. We started passing the ball and showed how much quality we’ve got in the team. We could have had even more.”

Sauchie’s victory took them to within a point of Camelon, with the clubs eighth and ninth respectively. And with the same number of games played, Kelly says they are desperate to earn bragging rights by finishing above their rivals.

He added: “We need to keep looking up. We are much closer to Camelon now and with them being a local rival, we want to finish above them.

"Finishing as high as possible is the aim for the rest of the season. We’ll do that if we keep putting in good performances and scoring goals.”
