SWIMMING talent Duncan Scott has had an incredible year in the pool.

The youngster has competed and successfully won golds at Scottish Schools, eight age group titles at Scottish age groups in April. Represented Scotland at the Tri Nations in May.

Scott then went on to win two Scottish Junior Titles in June before winning four medals for Team GB at the European Youth Olympic Festival in July.

The big question was just how could he top that in August as he headed for the season ending British Gas ASA Youth Championships in Sheffield.

Duncan qualified for 10 events at the meeting and for many swimmers to qualify for one event is a decent achievement but sensibly Duncan and his coaches decided he should focus on six events.

On the opening day, the first event was the 100 Butterfly heats followed by a 4 x 100 relay as the last event of the morning. Session 2 and he was back in the semi's of the Butterfly to qualify for the final.

Session 3 saw him take on the 200 Freestyle Heats where a comfortable swim and a personal best, meant he cruised into the semi finals.

Duncan's first final came on day two and was in the 100 Butterfly where he won gold to become the ASA 15-16 Age Group champion and broke the Scottish Junior Record with a time of 55.43.

Scott followed this with another personal best in the 200 Free semi-final and added another Scottish Junior Record.

Next up was the 200 Individual Medley as well as he had the 200Fly on day three heats. Both events saw him secure his place in the semis. He finished the morning with another 200 in the 4 x 200 relay swimming for his team F.I.R.S.T.

The semi final of the 200 Fly was in the afternoon and after a gruelling swim he was through. Halfway through the evening and he now faced the 200 Freestyle.

Duncan again landed gold and broke his personal best as well as the Scottish Junior Record he'd broken the day before. His final 200 was the Individual Medlay semi final which he won making it two finals and two golds from his events so far.

Day 4 He fortunately didn't swim in the morning, even although it was the 100 Freestyle an event where he is ranked no 1 in the UK for his age but on Friday night he had two finals. He won gold in both and broke Scottish junior records in both. Coach Elaine Johnston at Strathallan and Steven Tigg of FIRST were both delighted with his showing.

A well earned rest on Day 5 saw him recharge for one final push in his final two events.

The morning session on the final day saw him swim a 400IM followed by a personal best in the 50 Freestyle, the event he's the 15 year old GB record holder.

He finished the morning with a team swim in the 4 x 100 Medlay relay before a bit of food and then into the finals at 2pm.

The final of the 400IM was an incredible swim out on his own where he won a remarkable fifth gold of the games with one race still to come.

Last race of the day was the 50 Freestyle where Duncan smashed the GB age group record, the Scottish Junior Record and the Scottish Age Group record to win in 23.23.

Scott became the third ranked in Scotland for all ages, and he's only 16.

What a way to finish the season with six finals , six Golds, a GB record, two Scottish Age Group records and five Scottish Junior Records.

Duncan has a swimming scholarship to Strathallan School in Perthshire where he is coached by former commonwealth swimmer Elaine Johnston.

He competes for Bo'ness ASC part of Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team (FIRST) who is coached by Alloa resident Steven Tigg.

Duncan is a member of Scottish Swimming Youth Development Squad and is assisted by the Institute Of Sport.
