Alloa-born golfer Stuart MacGregor has been sharing his experiences on the greens of Gleneagles through his new kindle book, after winning a 16-month membership as a raffle prize, writes Michelle Henderson.

His book titled ‘A year in Golfing Heaven’ comes from diary entries written during his time on the course, detailing how it felt to play and share the iconic experience with fellow family members and friends.

Stuart told Advertiser Sport, “I have had so many high points with this experience and I feel proud that I’ve managed to get the book published, and seeing my picture and name in the kindle store does give me a huge sense of achievement.

“I had been keeping a diary of all the times I went to Gleneagles, and who came along with me, whether it was for a medal, as I was fortunate to join one of the clubs, Glenearn, within Gleneagles to play weekly medals, or just to the practice range.

“I wanted to share the story of the ordinary working man, having a chance to live the golfing dream for a short time.” Before winning his dream prize, Stuart was already a keen golfer and had signed up to become a volunteer, alongside his two sons, for the Johnnie Walker Championship taking place at the club.

It was through this experience that he heard of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Stuart added, “I have been playing golf since I was a small boy – my dad used to take me in my pram when I was a baby! – and spent many a time through my youth playing golf whether on holiday or at the local courses.

“As my sons were volunteering at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, rather than just watch the golf, I added my name to the volunteering list, working as a marshal on the fourth then 10th holes, which itself was a great experience.

“In doing this, I along with all the other volunteers got put into a raffle, with the membership being first prize.” With the Ryder Cup taking place late next month, Stuart explained how he will be taking to the green once again to volunteer during the six-day event.

Stuart added, “Having this spectacle only 30 minutes away is a once in a lifetime chance to watch and participate in an event I have grew up watching also being patriotic.

“I only hope that the weather is good to show the beautiful course and surrounding area to the world.

“I will be volunteering at the event along with both of my sons, Kyle and Kieren.

“I will be working as a spectator assistant, and the boys are on the practice range. We cannot wait for it now.”
