FIVE takeaways in and around Glasgow are set to head to London to battle-it-out for the best in Scotland.
The British Takeaway Awards (BTAs) aim to celebrate and recognise the small, and often family-run, businesses that work to serve their local area.
This year, eateries from Glasgow, Uddingston, Lanark and Hamilton are on the way to the BTAs at the prestigious Savoy hotel.
In no particular order, the five finalists are:
- Grill Guru, Oswald Street, Glasgow – Grill
- MiSushi, Main Street, Uddingston – Japanese
- Mr Chef, Main Street, Uddingston – Indian and Pizza (2017 winner)
- Rollo’s Fish and Chips, Abbeygreen, Lanark – Fish and Chips
- The House of Shah, Quarry Street, Hamilton – Indian and Pizza
To determine the region’s winner, each of the finalists will be marked on a mystery shop, and will provide a written submission on why they deserve to win.
A panel of judges - including restaurant industry innovator and businesswoman, former star of BBC2 Dragon’s Den Sarah Willingham and UK managing director of Just Eat Graham Corfield, will review the results and identify the 12 regional winners and the overall victor for Best Takeaway in Britain.
In total, 16 coveted awards will be presented.
The Best Takeaway in each of the 12 regions and winners of the judges’ awards will receive £1,000 and free signup to Just Eat, or their signup fee returned if they are already a partner.
One of the regional winners will then go on to be awarded Best Takeaway in Britain and receive a further cheque for £5,000.
The event takes place on November 12.
