LAZY pet owners have been branded disrespectful after dog mess was found next to headstones at Tullibody Cemetery.

Families visiting their loved ones’ resting places were greeted by the disgusting sight, despite the fact waste bins are provided just a few yards away. The cemetery also has “no fouling” and “keep dogs on leads” signs at the entrance.

One visitor said she was disgusted when she went there last week only to find dog mess right next to a family member’s grave.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It was right next to the headstone. It’s not nice when you go to visit someone there and there’s dog mess.”

Responsibility for the Wee County’s cemeteries lies with Clackmannanshire Council.

Environment spokesperson Councillor Kathleen Martin said: “Our cemeteries are places for people to go and remember their lost loved ones.

“Dogs are allowed in our cemeteries as long as they are under control. It is completely unacceptable and extremely disrespectful for dog owners to allow their pets to foul in cemeteries.

“There are signs at the entrances regarding no dog fouling and bins are provided which can be used for bagged dog waste.”

Tullibody, Cambus and Glenochil Community Council had been made aware of people being upset by coming across dog mess.

Interim chairperson Josie Clark said the group works alongside other organisations in the community to encourage dog owners to take their responsibilities more seriously.

She added: “We also had a successful fresh air fun day in July where it was highlighted the importance of keeping public places such as the Tullibody Cemetery, car park and local parks free from dog fouling.”
