VOLUNTEERS rallied round to clean-up the litter dumped in the Delph Pond over the festive period.

Noticing the toys, bikes and rubbish at the Tullibody spot – and frustrated with the eyesore – local resident Joanne Robertson felt motivated to do something.

She organised an event for Saturday, January 13, and called on people to head along and help in the morning.

The team pulled a number of large items from the pond, as well as filling several black bags with rubbish from the water and surrounding woodland.

It took just over an hour to clear-up the worse of it and Joanne was pleased and surprised by the amount of support received.

Janette McGowan, of the Delph Pond Forum, congratulated her on her community spirit and said: "We need more of this in our town.

"We can't stop the litter louts or the dumb dumpers, but we can stop them ruining our open spaces and natural environment."

Janette added that the forum has litter picking equipment that local residents can borrow if they want to organise their own community clean ups.
