TAKE a trip back in time and celebrate the magic of cultural icons Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel – with ‘The Simon & Garfunkel Story’.

It has been 50 years since the folk/rock duo – who once ranked 40 on The Rolling Stone’s list of 100 artists of all times – recorded what would become their first number one hit single, The Sound of Silence.

However, their music continues to captivate audiences far and wide and you can indulge your nostalgic side, and embrace their songs, with The Simon & Garfunkel Story.

Featuring seasoned West End, award-winning leading man Dean Elliot (Buddy Holly in Buddy – The Musical) and a full cast of talented actor-musicians, the production will take you through the groovy times of the 1960s.

It tells the tale of both musicians from their humble beginnings as rock and roll duo Tom and Jerry, right through their massive success, dramatic break-up and finishing with a stunning recreation of the 1981 Central Park reformation concert.

Reaction to the show has been incredible since it kicked off on its first run last year.

The show was due to hit the West End at the weekend and is set to take in a whole host of dates in Scotland, before going international and hitting Dubai, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Spain, Italy and Holland.

Speaking to the Advertiser before the London debut, Dean said of the show: “We’ve had standing ovations every night without fail and people have really got behind it. Their music is just timeless but with this show they get a lot more than just a tribute, this isn’t a tribute show.” The production features a huge projection screen alongside both original photos and film footage whilst a full live band perform all their hits, including Mrs Robinson, Cecilia, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Homeward Bound, Sounds of Silence and many more.

For the team, the best date so far has been opening night when they realised audiences loved the show.

Dean said: “I think it’s got to be opening night. I’m sure the West End and playing to 2000 people in Scotland will overtake that but opening night we literally had no idea how good the show was. We went on stage not knowing if it would be a success or not.” The Simon & Garfunkel Story will hit Stirling’s Albert Halls on Wednesday 18 February and audiences can expect a treat.

Dean explained: “It’s a West End show with West End values, it’s critically acclaimed, a great piece of theatre with some of the best songs ever written.”
