EARLY bird tickets for The Scribbler’s Picnic have gone on sale.

The unique music event, which is run entirely by volunteers, will feature hundreds of musicians covering an array of music in the grounds of Stirling Rugby Club on Sunday 10 May.

In association with Stirling and Bridge of Allan Round Table, it runs under the tagline ‘Musicians Helping the Fight Against Cancer’.

One of the organisers, Katy Whitelaw, said: “We are excited to launch this year’s event and we are now very much in the planning stages. We have already had loads of interest from bands looking to play from all across the UK and the day is always an eclectic mix of music for all tastes and all the family. The indoor kids room which we introduced last year was a real hit so that is set to return this year – so there is somewhere for families to go if the weather isn’t kind to us.

“We look forward to welcoming those fantastic Scribbler’s devotees who attend rain or shine every year and those who are new to the event and experiencing the Scribbler’s experience for the first time. We hope every one has a brilliant day and we raise loads for some really brilliant causes.” The event is held in memory of Stirling musician, teacher and writer Graham Whitelaw who penned a column ‘The Scribbler’ in the Stirling Observer – hence the name of the event.

Graham died of cancer in 2001 and friends and family got together to hold a memorial event which has gradually snowballed into a highlight of the local events scene.

Alongside the stages of music there will be an indoor kids room featuring bouncy castles and face painting, outdoor children’s shows, a performance stage featuring sports and dance displays, commercial, charity and community stalls, beer tent, catering outlets and the Remembrance Wall where people can leave messages for a loved one who has passed away or messages of hope for those who have survived cancer.

Alongside the main stage, there will be stages hosted by The Tolbooth, Random Rhythms Music Studio, Folk Stage, Acoustic Stage, Performance Stage, Covers Stage and a Youth Stage.
