FOR the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) 2015 promises to be a landmark year, heralding a welcome return to the international stage.

This summer, NYOS Symphony Orchestra embarks on a prestigious tour to China, performing at world-class venues in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai.

The international tour is only one of many highlights in the 2015 calendar, as NYOS celebrates a year themed ‘Scottish Connections’.

Every aspect of the programme, including conductors, soloists and repertoire, has been carefully selected to reflect and celebrate the organisation’s Scottish connections at home, while showcasing its world-class talent abroad. Highlights during the year include: NYOS Jazz Access marks its third consecutive residency at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival with the music of jazz-fusion band Weather Report, Scotland’s own Rory Macdonald conducts NYOS Symphony Orchestra, NYOS senior orchestra will be joined by cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and Holly Mathieson, associate conductor of BBCSSO, is to conduct NYOS Junior Orchestra.

The NYOS Symphony Orchestra will also perform two piano concertos by Scottish composers and NYOS Jazz Orchestra will be joined by renowned saxophonist Iain Ballamy.

As a national youth arts organisation, NYOS believes it is vitally important to encourage a younger audience to classical concerts to experience the thrill of hearing a full-scale symphony orchestra live while witnessing their peers in action.
