Disney/Pixar:

Greatest

Featuring music from Toy Story 1 & 2, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Cars, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, WALL-E, The Incredibles and Up, this greatest hits selection from a handful of Pixar's animation gems is clearly to tie in with the recent release of Toy Story 3.

Having been a fan of composer Thomas Newman since I first heard the main title track to Fried Green Tomatoes back in the early '90s, my highlights on this record come from his Finding Nemo scores (Nemo Egg, First Day and Field Trip).

Disney favourite Randy Newman features multiple times showcasing the likes of Toy Story's You've Got A Friend In Me, Monsters Inc's The Scare Floor, Car's McQueen and Sally, and A Bug's Life's The Time Of Your Life.

As mostly made up of score music, I would say that this compilation is aimed more so at an older audience who appreciate Pixar movies rather than the child fans.

Tango In The Attic:

Bank Place Locomotive Society

Having formed 2008 somewhere within Glenrothes, Tango In The Attic have got off to a fabulous start with already having played the Tbreak tent at 2009's T in the Park along with a session on Vic Galloway's Radio One show.

On listening to their music Vampire Weekend instantly comes to mind along with a splash of Surfer Blood.

I admit they've got me hooked with their Scottish swagger and crazy beating percussion.

There was not one bad track on the album and by all accounts their live sets are something to behold so check out http://www.myspace.com/tangointheattic for more information and dates on upcoming shows.

Rubicks:

Is This Love?

London band Rubicks return to the scene with the release of their second single Is This Love? taken from their forthcoming studio album Rise And Fall Of The Giddy.

Reminding me of a more electronic Emily Haines with an essence of LadyHawke, lead singer Vanessa Anne Redd manages to balance heart wrenching lyrics to a body bopping beat.

Frantic in all the right places, the harmonics of male and female vocals do not allow for you to dwell on the fact the track is about being in love with someone who is dying.

As a B-side, Dragons slows things down for a euphoric and seductive listen.

If a fan of Chew Lips, Rubicks is right up your street.

iTunes Download Recommendation

MNDR:

I Go Away

I had never heard of New York's Amanda Warner until she featured on Mark Ronson's recent smash Bang Bang Bang.

As a former touring keyboardist and engineer to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's I am not surprised to take an instant like to her music.

Like Coco Sumner, MNDR samples a sound which is going to take over the indie electro rock scene this forthcoming music year.

I Go Away sways within a coolness of beats and is a sweet track to end the summer and introduce autumn.

Classic Collection

Incubus:

Morning View/Make Yourself/A Crow Left Of The Murder

With a sound superior to that of Kings Of Leon and lyricism more ambitious than the majority of indie rock bands out there, although not the commercial type I am surprised Incubus have never hit the heights they so very much deserve.

With too many epic tracks to choose from I handpick The Warmth, Drive, I Miss You and Pardon Me from 1999's Make Yourself, Wish You Were Here and Are You In? from 2001's Morning View, and Megalomaniac, Pistola, Southern Girl, Zee Deveel, Smile Lines and the title track from 2004's A Crow Left Of The Murder to create a personal and unbeatable Classic selection from an unforgettable Californian surfer band.
