Scott Pilgrim vs. The World OST
As a fan of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim comic book series in which the title character has to battle seven evil exes in order to win the heart of love interest Ramona Flowers, I knew from the casting of the motion picture that the soundtrack would be nothing short of indie punk rock brilliance. The movie I will review at a later date when released, but for now I am happy to plug my iPod in to listen to the likes of Metric, Broken Social Scene, The Black Lips and Plumtree who feature as part of the film's score. Those who love the comics will appreciate the Sex Bob-Omb tracks, while those who haven't heard of Scott Pilgrim will be left with an appetite to find out more.
The Weepies: Be My Thrill
If a regular viewer of Grey's Anatomy, Gossip Girl or One Tree Hill chances are you have already heard a handful of The Weepies tracks. Returning with their fourth studio album the married Massachusetts duo, Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, continue to delight with their easy-listening sounds. Reminiscent of an acoustic folk Lady Antebellum, Be My Thrill is beyond cute. The warm harmonies and pop backbeats are a lot more bouncy than previous efforts which can only serve the couple within this age of Chart tunes. Highlights include Please Speak Well Of Me, Red Red Rose, I Was Made For Sunny Days and Hummingbird.
Everything Everything: Man Alive
Making the BBC Sound of 2010 shortlist amongst the likes of The Drums, Ellie Goulding, Delphic and Two Door Cinema Club, British indie rockers Everything Everything are clearly worth a listen. Tinnier than Yeasayer and less epic than Bombay Bicycle Club, for a debut studio album Man Alive has been put together pretty well. At the moment the band are in the midst of a nationwide tour so check out their MySpace page for details of upcoming shows: http://www.myspace.com/everythingeverythinguk. Highlights on the record include Weights, My Kz Ur Bf, Photoshop Handsome and Qwerty Finger.
iTunes Download Recommendation
Kitty The Lion: Lion In The Bed
Having watched their charming set at RockNess, T and Belladrum this year, I think it is fair to say that I have a found a passion for Kitty The Lion. Hailing from Glasgow there is something endearing within singer-songwriter Anna Meldrum's vocals backed up by Sorren Maclean on guitar, Nick Roan on drums, Joe Rattray on upright bass and Callum Wiseman on mandolin. Lion In The Bed was the only track available to download via iTunes, however Bird Flu and Catalytic Converter would make for excellent additions to your playlist also when released. I would say Kitty The Lion's sound is like a better female-led Mumford & Sons - foot stomping folk. Rarely do I get so excited about a band, but over the past few months I cannot get Kitty The Lion's music out of my head (along with the equally enchanting Rachel Sermanni). Along with Sermanni, if Kitty The Lion are not signed up by a major label and hit the top spot within the next year there is something seriously wrong with this industry.
Classic Collection
The Rolling Stones: Rolled Gold +
Having formed in 1962 and still going strong, The Rolling Stones are the epitome of rock and roll. There's always been something sexy about Mick Jagger's stage strut and at 67 years old he's still got it. Along with Keith Richards, Jagger is the only other original member. Although Ronnie Wood and drummer Charlie Watts joined a little later, The Rolling Stones would be lost without them. This greatest hits collection features a handful of my favourite Classics; from Paint It Black and Satisfaction to Brown Sugar and recent SuBo cover Wild Horses. Although having shot down rumours of a new world tour, I believe this is not the last we have seen or heard of the British band. Beatles or Stones?! Stones!
