Tribes: Baby (Deluxe Edition)

Prior to being announced for the NME Awards 2012 Tour, alongside Azealia Banks, Metronomy and headliners Two Door Cinema Club, I'd never heard of London quartet Tribes. They've previously released two EPs (We Were Children and When My Day Comes) and a single (Sappho), but Baby is their debut studio album. Thankfully Tribes are now on my radar as on first listening they are exactly what I look for in an indie band. Not only do they have a perfect mix of smooth rock lullabies (Walking in the Street, We Were Children) with guitar riffed anthems (Whenever, When My Day Comes), but they've also thrown in a couple of epic sounding numbers (Himalaya, Alone or with Friends). Fans of Elbow, The Vaccines, Little Comets and Razorlight should definitely check this introduction out as lead vocalist and guitarist Johnny Lloyd (formerly of Operahouse) quite possibly is the next Borrell. As previous NME tour bands have included Bombay Bicycle Club, The Maccabees, Florence + The Machine, Everything Everything and The Killers, Tribes are heading off in the right direction.

Spotify Playlist Recommendation:

The Maccabees: Walking in the Air. Jackson 5: Frosty the Snowman. Bing Crosby: White Christmas. Destiny's Child: 8 Days of Christmas. Spice Girls: Sleigh Ride. The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl: Fairytale of New York. Wham!: Last Christmas. Michael Bublé: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. Coldplay: Christmas Lights. Brenda Lee: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. Justin Bieber: Christmas Eve. She & Him: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Frank Sinatra: Let it Snow. John Williams: Carol of the Bells.

It's Christmas! Almost. The above are a selection to get you into the festive spirit if you aren't already. And yes, I did include Bieber and the Spice Girls - but I feel as if I claw back cool points for my inclusion of The Maccabees and Zooey Deschanel (She & Him).
