The Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs)
In association with retro clothing store Vintage Guru, Glasgow's The Garage will host The Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs) when it returns for its third year on Thursday 1 March.
The event, which provides recognition to bands and artists that mainstream music tends to ignore, will be hosted by stand up comedian Billy Kirkwood.
Billy said, "The night itself is insane and the energy is immense. I've hosted maybe every type of event imaginable and this ranks up there with one of the wildest and craziest, but most fun. Everyone from the nominees to the techs are just charged with such energy you can't help but have a good time, and it gives it real sense of occasion. I love hosting this show. This is me back for the third time and it's been a delight watching it grow with each passing year."
After the success of SAMAs 2011, with performances by The LaFontaines and Three Blind Wolves and appearances from winners Indian Red Lopez and nominees Bwani Junction, this year again sets to represent a broad spectrum of music produced and distributed across the country with the introduction of new category Best Hip Hop. There will also be explosive live sets by some of Scotland's hottest new acts, as well as guest appearances from leading figures in the music scene.
SAMAs founder and creative director Richy Muirhead said, "Every year the awards are such a buzz and I see it as a great opportunity to showcase the diversity of the music scene in Scotland, whilst giving artists the chance to forward their career and become even more noticed."
On the evening awards will be given out to Best Rock/Alternative sponsored by Ignite Records, Best Metal sponsored by Departed Apparel, Best Acoustic sponsored by JamHut Studios, Best Electronic sponsored by Bar Bloc, Best Live Act sponsored by Messer Schmitt, Best Newcomer sponsored by Cathouse Rock Club and Best Hip Hop sponsored by Young Scot.
Tickets are on sale now for £10 via Tickets Scotland (in-store, tickets-scotland.co.uk, or 0141 204 5151) and from Vintage Guru, 165 Byres Road, Glasgow (vintageguru.co.uk).
