A FORMER Stirling University student has produced a documentary on the slasher horror genre featuring names well-known to gore hounds.

Calum Waddell, who originally hails from Fife, made the film with fellow documentarian and High Rising Productions partner Naomi Holwill.

Slice and Dice: The Slasher Film Forever was originally done as a side project but grew legs over three years to become a feature-length release.

The film is out on DVD on 13 May, having premiered at festivals across the world.

Ever since Alfred Hitchcock created Psycho in 1960 the story of a weapon-wielding madman - stalking and slaughtering helpless victims - has become a fixture of fear flicks and bludgeoned bombastic box office takings worldwide.

Slice and Dice...takes an often irreverent look at this much-maligned genre with commentary from filmmakers and actors of the genre.

The delirious documentary delves into the history of hack 'em up cinema, investigates the rules of the genre (famously outlined in the film Scream) and even gives some pointers into how to survive a stint in the genre.

Featuring interviews with, among others, actor Corey Feldman (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, The Lost Boys) and horror master Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), the film won best documentary award at the annual South African Horror Film Festival.

Among others interviewed include Mick Garris (Masters of Horror), Tom Holland (Child's Play), Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3D), Jeffrey Reddick (creator: Final Destination) and Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp).
