A tale that features Bannockburn Live as its starting point is still on sale.

Thousands flocked to the two-day festival held at the Battle of Bannockburn visitor centre to celebrate the 700th anniversary of the famous battle.

King Robert the Bruce of Scotland defeated King Edward II of England’s army on the fields of Bannockburn on the 23 and 24 June 1314.

Advertiser reporter Hamish Hutchinson used the event as a starting point for his new book, The Battle of Bannockbun.

Characters from his previous book, Three Friends and Crumbs: Volume One, attend the festival and learn from a spider all about another battle – when Merlin the Mouse fought Robert the Moose over a bun found on the fields of Bannockburn in 1314.

Unlike his last publication, The Battle of Bannockbun features more illustrations by Hamish.

He said, “I’ve been reading a lot of Walter Moers’ books (The City of Dreaming Books, The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear) which have illustrations within the text and I thought I’d try something similar. It is mainly as the feedback I got from young readers about the last book was they wanted more illustrations. I’m pleased with the results and hope readers are too.” The Battle of Bannockbun is available on Amazon, at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum and in the Alloa Framing Company, Primrose Street, Alloa.
