A new exhibition at the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum has travelled 4000 miles to be installed.

The exhibition, entitled “Dunedin through the Years”, tells the story of the growth of Stirling’s ‘sister city’, Dunedin, in Florida, USA, over its 100 year history.

It is the return leg of an exchange of exhibitions between the Smith and Dunedin’s Historical Museum which had the Stirling’s ‘Bannockburn 700’ exhibition from January to April this year – attracting record numbers of visitors.

The American exhibition is now open and runs until 17 August.

Stirling Smith chairman, Colin O’Brien, who promoted the idea of an exchange of exhibitions this year, said, “I believe we are the only Scottish Art Gallery and Museum to have included an international exhibition in our 2014 programme.

“This has been achieved through a great deal of hard work on the part of the staff of the museums and generous support from Stirling Council, the Friends of the Smith, individual donations and our own fundraising efforts.” The exhibition was officially opened last week by visitors from Dunedin.

The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am to 5pm and Sunday 2pm-5pm.
