The Pierces will cross the pond and hit the road in celebration of the release of their mesmeric new album.

Creation - marking a stunning sonic evolution for Allison and Catherine Pierce - was born after the Alabama-born sisters enlisted the help of a shaman to guide them on a spiritual journey.

They took ayahuasca, a hallucinogenic brew that allows its drinker to peer behind the curtain of their soul.

It sparked a prolific creative period for the girls, and as the title suggests, Creation marks a new dawn for their sound.

Allison told the Advertiser, “The first time I took it I was in the middle of a break-up. It was a dark period in my life. It showed the love I had for this person and why we broke up. It shows your deepest fears - from that you can then overcome them.” The girls dropped the drug a few times to whet their creative juices.

Allison said, “It made us more open as people. Everyone has desires and dreams, but sometimes we don’t follow through because we’re blocked. This reveals the blocks so you can get rid of them.

“Hopefully that will come through in our music.” The sisters completed the record six months ago and have been itching to get their sweet sounding harmonies out.

Allison added, “I like being in the studio because you can try anything. You don’t have the anxiety of performing live - if something doesn’t work you just try something else.

“I love performing live. It feels really good to see people respond to the music. You feel the energy flow between you and the audience. When live, there’s always an element of surprise and the unknown. It feels good to be scared. It’s exciting.” Creation will drop on 1 September.

The Pierces are playing at The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on Tuesday 16 September.
