Charity Concert Thursday 9 October A charity concert is being held at Alva Academy in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Ensembles of 12-18 year olds from in and around Clackmannanshire will perform a wide and varied musical programme, featuring Hillfoots Music for Youth. Concert Friday 10 October Thursday’s Child concert in Alloa Ludgate Church, whose minister is part of the singing duo. Starts at 7.30pm, tickets are £6, includes refreshments.

Charity Ceilidh Friday 10 October A family ceilidh in aid of ‘Muscular Dystrophy will be held at Alloa Town Hall on Friday 10 October. There will be dancing to versatile Clackmannan musician Davy Sinclair and his ‘Furry Boots Ceilidh Band during the event, organised by fundraiser Donald Cowan. Introduction to Citizen Science and Biodiversity Recording Saturday 11 October Join the Ochils Landscape Partnership (OLP) to learn about bio-recording, from 11am until 3pm. The event is being held in the Ochil’s Woodland Park, meeting at the carpark, it is free to attend and there are no limits to how many people can take part.

RSPB Meeting Thursday 16 October The next meeting of the Forth Valley RSPB Group will feature a presentation about seabirds and marine protection in Scotland. Meetings are held at the Hillpark Community Centre, Morrison Drive, Bannockburn, Stirling, FK7 0HZ. For non RSPB members there is a small charge of £3, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits. Introduction to Geocaching Saturday 18 October Learn about geocaching, a treasure hunting game which is a great way to explore your local environment, with the Ochils Landscape Partnership (OLP). It will be held at Alva Glen, meeting at the car park, between 11am and 12.30pm, no booking necessary.

Strimmer Training Friday 24 October Strimmers are a quick and effective tool for cutting back weeds and vegetation that would otherwise encroach upon paths and limit access. If you are interested in helping the Ochils Landscape Partnership (OLP) maintain some of its project sites in the future, it is offering Lantra-certificated training in the use of a walk behind strimmer. Looking after your Woodland Saturday 1 November Want to know more about how you can help keep your local woodland healthy and make it an enjoyable and accessible place for everyone? This training course led by expert forester Donald McPhillimy will introduce you to the basics of woodland management. The day will start with an explanation of some of the theory underlying management and practices before moving into a practical session covering techniques such as pruning, thinning, coppicing and the control of invasive species. The event is free, equipment will be provided. Due to the nature of the course, it is limited to 14 participants. It will take place from 10am until 4pm, approximately, meeting at Alva Glen car park. World War One Display Saturday 1 November A display of memorabilia from World War One will be in Sauchie and Coalsnaughton Parish Church from 10am until 1pm. Admission is by donation and all proceeds go to Erskine Hospital. There will be tea, coffee and eats available. Children go free. There will be stalls with Christmas items, jewellery, toiletries, bulbs, toys, books, soft goods, cake and candy and lots more. There will be a craft corner for children and they can visit Santa in his grotto.
