ALLOA played host to world champion bowler Alex Marshall on Tuesday 24 February when he paid a visit to the Leisure Bowl.

‘Tattie’ as he is affectionately known by fans, spent the afternoon chatting with bowlers, as well as giving demonstrations, and showing off his gold Commonwealth medals.   Having been crowned world champion a whopping six times for indoor singles bowls, members of the Leisure Bowl were thrilled to have him visit.    Organiser of the event, Kris Storf, has known Marshall since they were boys growing up in Edinburgh.

He said: “Tattie is a big hit with Scottish bowlers, especially after that semi- final celebration at last year’s Commonwealth… “The young bowlers look up to him… It [was] a wee treat for the kids.” Marshall started to bowl as a child himself, and has gone on to achieve a great number of accolades, including being awarded an MBE in 2007.   Bowls is a sport for the young and the old, the beginners and the experts. Why not try your hand at the Leisure Bowl?

The centre has six rinks, and beginners are very welcome. There’s always someone on hand to provide advice from the rules of the game right through to what to wear.   There’s even the opportunity to rent bowls and shoes before investing money on your own.

A membership system is in place, however non-members can also play.

Let your competitive streak show or enjoy some friendly games. Whatever way you play, be sure to do it at the Leisure Bowl.
