Shy Child: Liquid Love

Release Date: 15th March 2010

This is the fourth studio album from New York electronic duo Pete Cafarella and Nate Smith. I much preferred this record to Hot Chip's latest effort and thought it had a slight Mylo/Empire of the Sun vibe to it. This would equally make for a great soundtrack to getting ready for a night on the tiles or to put on when crashing through the doors a few hours later. No stranger to supporting grand acts (Muse, Hot Chip, Bjork, Klaxons), Shy Child are well on their way to making a dent in the Death Disco scene this 2010.

Drive-By Truckers: The Big To Do

Release Date: 15th March 2010

If you like your rock country-style then this studio album from Drive-By Truckers is for you. Rockabilly in the same breath as say the average Lynyrd Skynyrd or Tom Petty output, The Big To Do features several bittersweet tracks with stories about life on the road and back home. It is unfortunate because this is a solid effort, but there is no space within our commercial chart for a band like this. Luckily the States is big enough to suck up and celebrate the talent of Drive-By Truckers (as they clearly have been doing with the success of the previous studio albums), so this should not be the last we hear and see of this band.

It's A King Thing: Buffalo

Hailing from Philadelphia, five-piece It's A King Thing are very laid back indie rock. This record would make a soundtrack to a summer with its Silversun Pickups/Smashing Pumpkins feel. As they are not widely commercially known I have little gossip on this band to report back to you, but their website was personally quirky which will have you smiling. If a fan of the earlier sounds of Weezer and The Lemonheads then head across to www.itsakingthing.com to download a free copy of this album while you have the chance.

iTunes Download Recommendation

The XX: Islands

Love.This.Track. I love the bass, I love the beat, I love the vocal strut of Jamie Smith and Romy Madley Croft. Hailing from Wandsworth, London, it is hard to believe that such a fine track has come from a band whose members are only twenty years old. If a fan of the US television series Grey's Anatomy, then you may have already heard this within an episode. This is one for Wayfarer wearers.

Classic Collection

The Cure: Greatest Hits

It is time to bust out the eyeliner for Robert Smith and his band of merry men. This Greatest Hits collection has all the Classics from In Between Days and Close To Me to The Lovecats and Friday I'm In Love. It can easily be argued that The Cure are original Emo musicians with their love-torn lyrics, make-up laden faces and eccentric videos. Although continuing to make music, their thirteenth studio album having been released in 2008, nothing will quite top these corkers from their new wave height in the 80's. My only complaint, this compilation should also have featured the track Six Different Ways.

If you've got a recommendation of Artists you think I should tune into or an idea for the Classic Collection section, hook me up on Twitter. You can find me by searching Jenster13. Your suggestions may then find themselves in print.
