TOM Adamson’s Sum Bampot Band have released their debut album ‘Acceptable Taboo’.

The folk/rock group are made up of Tom Adamson (vocals, 12 string & electric guitars, drum kit, piano, keyboard, percussion, violin and sonic landscaping), Rhiannon Bradbury (vocals, except on track ‘The Deils Awa’ and ‘Ode to the Leven), Jamie McCredie (lead electric guitar, rhythm electric guitar, lead 12 string guitar, 6 string acoustic, banjo) and Rob Paterson (bass).

They have just produced an album of original music featuring a number of tracks – The Deil’s Awa, The Deil, Don’t Follow Me, Beyond the City, Across the River, Ode to the Leven, Old Sins Make Long Shadows, Acceptable, As of Late (Natalie) and Queensberry Rules.

Speaking about the album, Tom said: “Acceptable Taboo is an album of original music featuring two 18th C Scottish poems: ‘Lifes A Faught’ by Robert Alan and ‘Ode to the Leven Water’ by Tobias Smollet. The Burns song ‘The Deil’s Awa Wi The Exciseman’ also creeps in as a work song to open the album.

“Inspiration for the album has come from Scottish poetry and old tales of Edinburgh nobility as well as original stories inspired by life events. Although not intended as a concept album, the stories within the completed work soon joined themselves together.” Tom grew up in a musical household, attended Edinburgh Young Musicians at the age of three and took drum lessons at The Kinross Pipe Band.

By the age of seven, the full drum kit had become a passion of his and he was studying with Sandy Harley at Dollar Academy.

He moved to London in 2007 and is an honours graduate from the Guildhall School of Music where he studied jazz percussion.

The 27-year-old has a busy year ahead, on the road and promoting the album.

He said: “It’s all very exciting just now, the album was released on Christmas Eve online and the physical CDs have just arrived.

“We are planning an album launch for mid April at The Water Rats in Kings Cross, London and from then onto some festivals [to be confirmed].

“With everyone being professional session musicians we all work regularly together on the London scene and our plan this year is to promote our new album along the way. There is a plan forming to tour later this year as well.” Find out more at tom-adamson.com or @TomAdamsonSBB
