ARAB STRAP have been confirmed for the return of The Great Western festival in Glasgow next month.

The iconic duo, recently nominated for the SAY Award, will join the bill with a special "stripped-back" set in the city's West End.

Organisers made the announcement this afternoon, along with the news that Cloth, Mike McKenzie and Danyo were also now set to perform.

It comes after further additions to the line-up were confirmed in the shape of The Joy Hotel, Callum Beattie and The Yummy Fur recently.

They all join an already packed bill including the likes of Anna Meredith and The Ninth Wave, with Scarlett Randle, Ruby Gaines, Pretty Preachers Club, happy tears, TAAHLIAH, Kavari, Amie Huckstep and more.

A spokesperson for the festival said: "We're incredibly excited to announce that the mighty Arab Strap have joined the bill for The Great Western 2021. The band's sold-out show at the Barras was unbelievable and we are absolutely delighted to have Aidan and Malcolm join us for a very special 'stripped back' performance on November 13.

"And if that wasn't already enough, we've also added Cloth - who coincidentally opened that very special show in Glasgow in September - alongside fellow new additions Mike McKenzie and Danyo!"

They added: "All of these incredible acts join an already massive line-up, stacked to rafters with legends, including SAY-award-winning composer and trailblazer Anna Meredith; Tracyanne and Danny... contemporary US indie-folk veteran Willy Mason, leading lights of Irish alt rock, Pillow Queens; sardonic Leeds post punk crew Yard Act; masterful US dreamweaver Cassandra Jenkins; kings of the iron riff Part Chimp; post-punk visionary Nuha Ruby Ra; extraordinary cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson, bedroom pop genius Smoothboi Ezra, Glasgow nu-jazz pioneers corto.alto and Pretty Preachers Club.

"Expect a dazzling line up of exciting local/Scottish talent too, including: Awkward Family Portraits, Ruby Gaines, Scarlett Randle, Lady Neptune, chizu nnamdi, DOSS, Goth GF, KLEO, Noushy 4Tet, Basil Panagop, SHREK666, Orla Magdelene, Amie Hickstep and Pocket Knife with many more across all festival stages.

"In the spirit of its inaugural edition, The Great Western 2021 will be housed across several specially-curated stages throughout the west end of Glasgow. From nearby community spaces such as Burnbank Bowling Club, The Glue Factory and Maryhill Community Central Halls to more established venues such as The Hug & Pint, and QMU, as well as the beautiful Mackintosh Queen’s Cross Church.

"In addition to familiar spaces from the first outing, this year’s festival will also welcome the addition of Glasgow University Union and Byres Road creative hub The Alchemy Experiment and guest curators Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai and local party institution SHOOT YOUR SHOT.

"So, whatever you’re into, wherever you may be, make sure you head west this November and explore, discover and more at The Great Western."
