VOLKA have set their sights on a bright 2022 with new singles set for release.

The West Lothian five-piece – made up of singer Thomas Fraser, bassist, Calum Sked, drummer Euan Sked and guitarists Steven Dunsmore and Calum More – will release new single Run in the next month or so with a follow-up coming shortly behind.

Originally from Livingston, though now spread out around West Lothian and the surrounding areas, the band are aiming to come out all guns blazing from the pandemic era.

Fraser says: "The past two years have had a very stop-start feel to them. We've been stuck in a kind of involuntary semi-hiatus, but we've not once thought about packing it in.

"I suppose the silver lining is that we've been able to keep working hard in the background. We know the new material we've got is our best to date and we're excited to see what we can achieve in 2022 with it.

The singer adds: "Our next single is called Run and it has a pop-punk energy and bounce to it which is totally at the other end of the scale compared to our last single Become Undone which was a bit of an angry stomper.

"Run was written as a way of channelling restless energy and the feeling of being overwhelmed. It's probably one of our more heart-on-sleeve tracks lyrically, but it's got a hooky and energetic chorus which is great fun to play live. Run should be out early 2022.

"We have plans to release another single in 2022 called The Only Way which is absolutely bursting with riffs and an energy which is venomous and visceral in comparison to the upbeat vibes in Run.

"We chose to release the singles in this way to allow Run to be a sweet jam in a sandwich of noisy rock with bite. We've also managed to write some new tracks over the last year as well, so we'll aim to get back into the studio to see if we can build on that energy."

Far from a barren 2021, Volka were able to release Become Undone as they kept things ticking over. And while the response they received was largely positive, they are hopeful of blowing everyone away with their next steps and making that big return to the stage in 2022.

Fraser continues: "We really didn't know what to expect from Become Undone due to the way the world was at the time of releasing it. We had to completely rethink the campaign compared to the previous releases as live shows have always been the main focus of a release for us.

"The reaction to Become Undone was amazing though and really surpassed what we set out to achieve which felt like a milestone for us. We want to keep up that momentum and take another step up with our next single Run so be sure to keep an eye on our socials to see all the news for that in 2022.

On live shows, the frontman says: "We're really looking forward to getting stuck into 2022 and making up for lost time. Most of all, though, we can't wait to get back to doing what we love most – getting out on the road and playing shows. We feel at home in front of a crowd and want to play in as many places as we can after not being able to for so long as well, so expect to see us all over the place in 2022."
