MT. DOUBT are preparing to pull the trigger on not one but two new albums in the near future.

The band will aim to unveil their fourth LP at some point this year, before quickly following up again with their fifth in 2023.

What's more intriguing is that the next release will be recorded during a live show in April.

The band's frontman Leo Bargery tells The Weekender that he had taken a different approach to writing songs during lockdown, which led to an opportunity to do something different with a release.

"There are a couple of albums in the works," he says. "It's all in the process of being demoed and recorded just now.

"That can be a fairly drawn out process, I'm not one for rushing and I definitely want to make it as strong as it possibly can be.

"There will be one Mt. Doubt album in 2022 and one in 2023 though, I know that for sure."

Not one to take the typical approach, the fourth Mt. Doubt album will, in fact, be recorded live during a set in Glasgow later this year.

The performance, at the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Glasgow on April 22, will feature Bargery "At The Piano" and will be released on vinyl via Last Night From Glasgow

"I'm really excited about it," Bargery adds. "Not least because I love the CCA as a space.

"Throughout lockdown, I was staying back home at my childhood home and playing the piano a lot; lots of livestreams and all that 2020 stuff.

"It so happened that much of what I was writing was piano-based and so [at the CCA] I'll be sitting alone on stage – as I did in my living room – at the piano playing an intimate, and exciting show.

He continues: "The show itself will be entirely new material; completely unheard, save for a couple from the livestream archives.

"We will be recording the performance and subsequently releasing it via Last Night From Glasgow on an exclusive vinyl run as the fourth Mt. Doubt album.

"The show IS the album recording. So, no pressure… I only need to sing and play the whole thing perfectly start to finish in front of an audience. But I'm excited that there will be that interaction and energy captured in the album."

Though the plan for album four is already in place, there will be more to come with a fifth LP in 2023.

And anyone looking to sample some of the upcoming releases from the band, a handful of shows are already in the diary for Mt. Doubt for the spring and summer.

First up is a small four-date tour starting at Stereo in Glasgow on March 2, with Constant Follower as support.

Mt. Doubt then perform on March 3 at Church in Dundee before heading to Fife for shows at Dunfermline's PJ Molloys on March 4 and a Live Lounge show Kings Theatre, Kirkcaldy on March 5.

Goodnight Louisa will support at both the Dundee and Dunfermline dates.

When asked what could be expected from the March shows, Bargery replies: "A bit of everything, I imagine.

"There will be shows at which it's just me, with the songs in their barest, most naked forms, and there will be others where it's me with the full backing of the band, going all out – nice and loud.

"Whatever your preference, there will be a show for you. The lyric-listeners and the beer-in-hand-dancers will all have a place to enjoy some Mt. Doubt songs."

He adds: "We'll absolutely be playing new songs, it's a sure fire way of finding out which ones we need to scrap. It's just the best way to find out what works and what doesn't.

"The songs do really take on so many new dimensions when you're able to perform them to an audience. We've been having a lot of fun with them, it's a much more upbeat direction."

Mt. Doubt also plays the likes of Braemar, Inverness, Kyle of Lochalsh, Stornoway and Nairn towards the end of next month, touring with Adam Ross.

He also hits the road again in June for a trio of shows in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee with The Weekender's Album of the Year Award winner Broken Chanter.
