AN EMERGING star of the Fife scene, PG Ciarletta knows his way to a foot-stomping banger.

He came flying out the traps in 2020 with The Sesh and Chancer, before following up with Let Go, Bonnie Toun and 27.

Those tracks offered up a sample of what the Fife man has to offer, with Bonnie Toun also earning a Music Video of the Year nomination at The Weekender Awards.

Ciarletta is preparing to lay down another marker this year, starting with a show at PJ Molloys next month.

In the meantime, The Weekender caught up with the songwriter for a bit of a confession into what tunes make him tick.

SLOTH – What tune makes you want to sit back and do nothing forever?

Rianne Downey – Start Again. One of the track’s in Rianne’s EP ‘Fuel To The Flame’ and one of her many brilliant songs. The song has a bit of a chilled vibe, and the finger plucking on the guitar is top class. A very talented person, amazing voice and quality guitarist. A big future ahead, with many more tunes to come I bet.

WRATH – What tune makes you want to absolutely wreck the hoose?

The Snuts – Glasgow. I was fortunate enough to witness the song at their headline show in the Barrowlands, and I have never seen a crowd reaction like that ever. When it kicks in and the dynamics of the song change at 42 seconds, it instantly makes you want to bounce, jump around and have a good time. Yes, I left covered in pints, but did I have a good time? Of course. One of the best Scottish tunes ever.

LUST – What tune do you NEED in your life right now?

I can narrow it down to two tracks from the last release week, which came out on February 11 this year. It is Andrew Cushin's You Don’t Belong and Brownbear's One More Night. Both songs have been played regularly and are proper bangers. Andrew’s track contains a belter of an electric guitar rift which is certainly a hook, and one listen to Brownbear’s song and you will be singing away. Also, the music video is brilliant and a must watch.

GLUTTONY – What tune can you not get enough of?

Megan Wyn – Polaroid. Megan is a Welsh musician based in Manchester and someone to look out for in the future. Her first single Polaroid is an absolute hit. When I discovered the song, I had it on a loop. Listening in the car, when running or in the house, etc. An amazing catchy upbeat song, so I recommend you all take a listen and get hooked in. You will see what I mean when you experience the chorus kicking in, and Polaroid will be the first of many great tracks from Megan.

GREED – What tune makes you want to hear more and more from that band?

Days Gone By, by my good friends in Dictator. I released The Sesh in August, 2020, in the same month as Days Gone By was released, and discovered the track on a radio show we were both being played on. Since then I have been hooked and every release by Dictator is top quality. One listen of a Dictator tune and before you know it your listening to Moonlight, Hide and Seek, Mirror Mirror and Candlemaker Row, etc. I believe the boys have a bright future and I am buzzing to see them do well, and cannot wait for future releases.

PRIDE – What tune are you most proud to have written?

Tough call between The Sesh, Bonnie Toun, and 27. I am proud of them all, but I will go with 27. Why? Well the song was very well received, connected with a lot of people, and even ended up on Match of The Day 2 during an Everton feature. That was a very proud moment to see your song on national TV on a programme you have watched most of your life. It is also the song in the last video I have of my late Grandfather listening to my music, and the lyrics in the chorus resonate and mean a lot to me now.

ENVY – What tune/chorus/verse/solo/lyric do you wish you had written?

Tough to narrow down. It comes down to three of my main influences – Gerry Cinnamon, The View or Paolo Nutini. Big fan of all three acts, but one of my favourite songs of all time would be The View – Face For The Radio. Cracking song, and a tune I love to play and sing when I am having a bit of a jam.
