SCOTTISH crowds will always be special for Nina Nesbitt – something she has never taken for granted.

The singer has been touring the world in recent weeks, having made her return to the stage in London and Glasgow in March this year.

Now, we are getting closer and closer to TRNSMT Sunday when Nesbitt will open the main stage before tens of thousands of music fans.

And with 2022 set to be the first full summer without any lockdown restrictions, she is determined to make it count.

"Everyone is waiting for the summer of their lives," she tells The Weekender. "I feel like it's been building up for a while.

"I do love TRNSMT; I've played once or twice and even hopped on stage with Lewis before, but this will be my first time on the main stage. So, I am buzzing for that.

"I did have a wee wander the last time I played and was enjoying the food truck and the bands. It's a good vibe there – it makes me think of a T in the Park in the city.

"To play the main stage at any festival in Scotland is something to tick off the bucket list. I did play the Tut's tent at T in the Park, though, which was very cool. A Scottish crowd is always a winner – even if you're not from Scotland, it's always a good crowd."

Nesbitt is currently crafting a bespoke set for her main stage debut, with a focus on kicking things off just right on the Sunday afternoon.

She adds: "We'll play some old ones, and some new ones. My songwriting has matured a little, as I've got older. The new songs are quite lyrical, but I'll definitely be bringing the more upbeat tunes for festival season.

"We're also going to turn a few of the collabs I have done into a full-band thing as well. It'll be a first time for that.

"Everyone just wants to have a good summer, don't they? So, I'll just keep it upbeat and fun. I just want to have a good time and make sure everyone in the crowd is having a great time, too."

Nina Nesbitt will open the main stage at TRNSMT on Sunday, July 10. Tickets are available online now.
