THERE was plenty of fun and games at Sauchie Gala Day.

Wee County residents turned out to show their support for the annual event held on Saturday (22 August) at Fairfield Park.

The day kicked off with a fantastic parade led by Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, leading into a jam-packed schedule.

Sandra Gruar, chairperson of Sauchie Active8 which organised the gala, said it was a fantastic event and reckons it was one of the most successful yet.

She said: “Overall, it was absolutely brilliant – I think everything was really, really good.

“I would say that was one of our busiest. The burger stall was a sell-out, we had no burgers left – that was a first.” The rain stayed off for the duration of the day and there was a range of stalls to keep people entertained.

The emergency services were part of the event and PC Emily Fulton was accompanied by a special sidekick, Edward the European Eagle Owl.

The Insider ride, there for the first time, was also incredibly popular, along with the bouncy slide and bucking bronco.

There were many attractions such as mini roundabouts, highland dancers, Beats of Brazil, five-a-side football and lazer conquest.

Adults and children alike also donned some interesting costumes for the fancy-dress competition.

Triumphant youngsters included Kieran Henderson as Olaf (first), Aidan Hay as a centurion (second) and Reece Hay as Captain America (third).

The bonnie baby competition saw tot Beth Catherine Hoggan net the winning prize.

The gala itself was officially opened by local councillor Graham Watt and the royal party – Sandra Johnston (queen), Kaitlyn Singleton (princess), Kane Goalam (king) and Mitchell Cooper (prince) – was presented.

The annual dance following the daytime event was held at Sauchie Hall and also went down well.

Sandra added: “I’d like to say thanks to all the staff who helped at the gala and also to Graham Watt for opening it at such short notice. Also to all the people with stalls who attended and thanks to everybody who took part.”
