THE Labour group has been appointed as a minority administration at Clackmannanshire Council.
During a special meeting held at Kilncraigs this morning (Thursday) Councillor Bobby McGill became the new council leader.
Councillor Derek Stewart was put forward for the role of provost by Labour, Councillor Tina Murphy by the SNP.
Following a roll call vote, Cllr Stewart was appointed to the position with nine votes from Labour and Councillor Alastair Campbell, while the SNP voted against.
In taking his position, he thanked everyone for the nomination and paid tribute to Cllr Murphy for her four years in the chair – saying she had done an “absolutely outstanding job”.
He added that he would try to be “as fair as possible” in his role.
Further appointments made were Councillor Jim Stalker as depute provost and Councillor Graham Watt as depute council leader.
